PIC Creates Groundbreaking Opening Sequence For The Kingdom
LOS ANGELES, CA September 28, 2007 - Since the introductory title cards of Hollywood‘s golden era, a film‘s opening title sequence has been an integral part of setting the tone of the film. Some sequences have become as iconic as the films themselves. Another iconic opening sequence can be seen today as The Kingdom, starring Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper and Jennifer Garner, opens nationwide in movie theaters.
In creating The Kingdom‘s opening sequence, PIC crafted a 3½ minute montage of archival audio and historical news footage, examining 72 years of history of the U.S. involvement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With a focus on the discovery of oil, political and business relationships, cultural tensions and modern day terrorist actions, the opening title sequence provides the perfect entrée into The Kingdom.
Director Peter Berg provided the PIC team with a clear directive by asking them to educate and entertain the audience at the same time. The sequence is woven together seamlessly with graphics that provide geopolitical information to move the story forward.
Commented PIC producer Pamela Green and creative directors, Julio Ferrario and Jarik Van Sluijs, “Peter‘s direction to provoke and inform, yet make the opening credits an organic part of the film and politically balanced, was challenging. It was amazing to work with The Kingdom team and to have the creative input and guidance from the likes of not only Peter Berg, but also Michael Mann, Scott Stuber, and Sarah Aubrey. It presented a tremendously creative atmosphere to do something new and memorable.”
