SONY UNVEILS NEXT GENERATION OF LCD MASTER MONITORING TECHNOLOGY

Sony BVM-L420 LCD monitorPARK RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 27, 2008 – Sony is expanding its BVM-L Series of LCD master monitors with the new BVM-L420, a 42-inch display (viewable area measured diagonally).

The display’s larger size and design enhancements make it ideal for a wide range of video applications that require critical monitoring such as high-end post production, telecine, color grading and digital intermediate work.

“We’ve built upon the unique characteristics and innovative design of its predecessor, the BVM-L230, which we introduced last year to a successful response from video professionals,” said John Kaloukian, director of Sony Electronics’ professional display group.

The new monitor is also well-suited for use in program and preview monitoring in broadcast master control rooms or in OB trucks.

According to Kaloukian, Sony has made several enhancements with this new model, many of which are the direct result of customer feedback.

For example, the new 10-bit LCD panel has been designed to produce a better picture contrast and more accurate black details to meet customer demand. The display uses a new LED backlight technology to remove motion blur, while maintaining consistent black levels.

Other upgrades in the new display include pixel zoom function, gamut error display mode, and EIA-608/708 closed-caption decoding capability, through use of the new closed-caption HD-SDI/SDI adaptor, model BKM-244CC.

The new monitor has a native resolution of 1920 by 1080 and its signal processing engine incorporates 12-bit accuracy, delivering a high-quality IP conversion algorithm for interlaced signal display and reduced processing delay.

As with the BVM-L230, the new display is based on Sony’s TRIMASTER™ technology, which is designed to maximize the full performance capabilities of professional flat-panel displays, and to deliver higher levels of color accuracy and color reproduction, precision imaging and quality picture consistency with higher dimensions.

The monitor incorporates key TRIMASTER technologies such as a wide color gamut panel, color management system, high gray-scale gradation, motion picture response, precision signal processing, calibration and feedback system.

A newly designed color management system developed specifically for the BVM-L series offers more consistent and stable color reproduction using a proprietary color feedback stability system. This technology is designed to accurately reproduce color spaces with 3D LUT management.

The BVM-L420 display offers multi-format monitoring capabilities, displaying SD and HD formats up to 1080/60P. In addition to HDTV data, it supports a range of signal formats, including 2048 by 1080/24P for digital cinema applications and 640 by 480 (VGA), 1920 by 1080 PC signals.

The monitor offers several connectivity options, including a standard DVI-D input. Optional inputs include HD-SDI/SDI SDI (4:2:2 10 bit and 4:4:4 10 or 12 bit), composite, Y/C, RGB/YPBPR/XYZ, and dual-link HD-SDI.

The BVM-L420 LCD video monitor is expected to be available this summer, with suggested list pricing to be announced.
