PANASONIC OFFERS UNPRECEDENTED HD RECORDING CAPACITY WITH 64GB P2 SOLID-STATE MEMORY CARD

64gb-p2-card.jpgLAS VEGAS, NV (April 13, 2008) – Here at NAB, Panasonic introduced a 64GB P2 solid-state memory card, model AJ-P2C064, for its line of P2 HD/P2 solid-state camcorders, recorder/players and drives, providing users with unprecedented high definition recording capacity.

In a little more than a year, Panasonic has quadrupled the storage capacity of its solid-state memory recording system, delivering on its promise to increase capacity exponentially. The new 64GB P2 card provides twice the storage capacity of the 32GB card released this past November, and quadruples the capacity of the 16GB P2 card which was announced only last year (at NAB 2007).

Quickly outpacing the storage capacity of tape and disc-based systems, the 64GB P2 card can hold more than four hours of DVCPRO footage (64 GB X 4 minutes per GB), or more than two hours of DVCPRO50, AVC-Intra 50 (64 GB X 2 minutes per GB) or 64 minutes of AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD.

With five 64GB P2 cards installed, an AJ-HPX3000 P2 HD camcorder can record for 5.3 hours in

AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD (6.6 hours in 1080/24pN) and 10.6 hours (13.3 hours in 24pN) in

AVC-Intra 50 or DVCPRO50. The reusable 64GB P2 card is ideal for long-form production and other applications that require long record times.

P2 cards allow professional users to benefit from a fast, easy, file-based workflow and exceptional reliability. Reusable P2 acquisition requires no media consumption, resulting in tremendous savings in media costs. Packaged in a rugged, die-cast frame, the P2 card is resistant to impact, vibration, shock, dust and environmental extremes including temperature changes.

The P2 card can be connected instantly with laptop PCs and major non-linear editing systems. For connection to laptop or desktop computers with ExpressCard slots, professionals can utilize a PC card-to-ExpressCard adapter as well as the new AJ-PCD35 P2 solid-state memory card drive.

The 64GB P2 card will work immediately with all P2 HD camcorders purchased from May 2007 forward. P2 and P2 HD products purchased prior to that date will need a free, downloadable software upgrade available on the Panasonic website.

The 64GB P2 card is scheduled for initial deliveries in fall 2008. The new 64GB P2 card will be offered in addition to the current 32GB and 16GB P2 card.

P2 HD all solid-state products offer high definition recording without the mechanical wear and environmental limitations of tape, hard disk, and optical disc based systems. P2 HD ensures the highest

reliability, especially in challenging conditions of extreme temperature range, shock, and vibration. P2 HD products provide a significant reduction in maintenance costs, longer useful product life, and immediate access to recorded video (no need to digitize, ingest or create proxy video files) and metadata. P2 HD provides the reliability of solid-state production; the immediate connectivity to existing IT infrastructures; the speed, ease of use and portability of P2 cards; and interoperability with leading NLE systems.
