NEW YORK, NEW YORK – April 14, 2008 – In “Beginnings: First Dawn Tek Jansen, still a pimply faced, physically awkward kid who had never had even a single girlfriend, carries a nano fiche given to him by the last Alpha Squad Agent as he lays dying, to Galaxy Plaza, Alpha Squad’s headquarters. With the fate of the universe now in his inexperienced hands, Tek is transformed into the greatest hero of New Earth, 10Hexamillion times more powerful, smarter, and better looking than Superman, Spiderman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League rolled together.

The 4-minute episode, animated by FlickerLab, is slated to air on “The Colbert Report,” as part of the “Stephen Colbert Presents Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7: The New Tek Jansen Adventures” on COMEDY CENTRAL, Thursday, April 3 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. FlickerLab, a development, design and animation house, is currently in production on six additional episodes, each approximately 3-4 minutes in length.

In episode two, we are reminded that each great master was once a lowly student and Tek’s adventures are just beginning. Once at Alpha Squad headquarters he is welcomed, at gun point, by Commander Joanna Valentine. What’s in store for young Tek? How will he survive this first encounter with Alpha Squad? Stay tuned.

“The Galaxy can let out its collective breath, and the ladies a sigh, for our favorite cartoon has resumed his rightful place in the pantheon of Superheroes,” explained Harold Moss, Founder/Creative Director of FlickerLab. ”Tek Jansen had previously appeared on ‘The Colbert Report’ in an online novel, and in comics so we stepped into a world and a character with a deep history and a rabid fan base. The fun of these cartoons is how serious they are — everything is deadpan and beyond and, for this episode, we had a lot of fun animating Tek’s transition from boy to mensch,” continued Moss.

The FlickerLab team included Creative Director Harold Moss; Executive Producer Tammy Walters; Animation Director Phil Lockerby; Background Designers David Michael Friend and Max Porter; Character Designer Simon Ampel; Storyboards Craig Wilson; Animatic Editor Dan Rosen; Producer Franklin Zitter; 2D Animators Phil Lockerby, Simon Ampel, Frank DiGregorio, Micah Cohen, Anand Duncan, Rachel Hoffman; Animation Interns, Pedro Davies, Will Pittas, Jeff Lee; Sound Designer and Mixer Thomas Lino.

FlickerLab utilized Adobe Creative Suite CS3; Apple Final Cut Studio 2; Panic Transmit software; PowerMac G5 Computers; iMac Intel Computers; Dell Ultrasharp 24” widescreen displays; Apple Displays; Aja’s Kona 2; Sony Digibeta Deck; Sony Broadcast Monitor; Wacom Intuos 3 tablets and Wacom Cintiq Tablets in the execution of this project.
