Postique Places First U.S. Order for New da Vinci Resolve® R350 and Impresario™ Control Panels

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — May 20, 2008 — da Vinci Systems, the leading provider of color enhancement and image restoration products for post-production facilities worldwide, today announced that Michigan-based Postique has placed the first U.S. order for two of company’s highly advanced Resolve® R350 digital mastering suites equipped with the new user-friendly Impresario™ control panel. Postique, a division of Grace & Wild Inc., plans to deploy its two Resolve R350 systems for DI finish work on high-end automotive and retail commercials.

“We tested many systems, and what struck us about the Resolve R350 was how fast it is. We couldn’t believe how quickly we moved through the test material. When we saw 20 nodes of 4K streaming in real time, that was almost enough to cinch the deal on its own,” said Eric Maurer, director of telecine at Grace & Wild Inc. “Testing the A mode/C mode outputs with versioning, we discovered another virtue of Resolve. It was the only system we looked at that generated commercial deliverables with the expedience that our busy facility requires. Overall, what I like about da Vinci is that they understand picture processing and image manipulation, but more than that, they understand the needs of colorists and clients working interactively.”

The Resolve R350 belongs to da Vinci’s family of startlingly powerful digital mastering suites unveiled at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show. Based on da Vinci’s C.O.R.E. (CUDA™ Optimized Resolve Engine), the new Resolve “R line” harnesses the massively parallel processing of GPUs to deliver faster and more powerful operation for the color enhancement and image processing demands of DI applications. The Resolve R350 is the top of the line, outfitted with two C.O.R.E.s and two da Vinci Transformer™ boards for high-performance image processing.

At Postique, the Resolve R350 — slated for delivery in June — will provide the bridge between traditional telecine workflow and a commercial DI environment with traditional outputs. Film will be flat-passed to the SAN D-max/D-min for auto-conform and color correction of spots in A-mode fashion. Material then will be outputted to a DVS SAN and rendered so that editorial IQ and EQs can be reconformed with handles. Resolve will enable Postique clients to archive material — with handles applied — to data drives, to HD, or to SD tape with ease.

The Postique team selected the Impresario control panels because they represent a monumental step forward in terms of layout, with easy-to-read displays; functions that can be accessed without resorting to lengthy menus; an ergonomic, compact design; and finally, back-lit, color-coded buttons for fast reference. The panel can be configured by individual users, and configurations can be saved for instant setup in the future.

“da Vinci designed the new Resolve line and the Impresario controller board to address the real-world issues that busy post houses like Postique face every day,” said Dean Lyon, director of marketing at da Vinci Systems. “Colorists appreciate our technology because our intimate knowledge of their needs means we design exclusively with them in mind.”
