On behalf of client Giant Octopus, BMD designed and produced the new show open, which involved live action production utilizing the new RED Camera. The company also created and produced original animation and motion graphics featured within the piece. The open is a fast paced, light and breezy visual “treat,” taking viewers through the streets and skyline of Manhattan, as they are decorated by red arrows, blue and yellow streamers, and bright yellow stars. We see Regis Philbin hustling along on a brisk walk, while co-star Kelly Ripa hops into a speedy cab. Meeting up in Times Square, the pair is delighted when they see each other, and notice the giant “Live! with Regis and Kelly” animated logo which dominates the Times Square skyline.

Said Steve Petersen, “This was a particularly great project for us, since we had the opportunity to work with two of America’s most beloved daytime TV stars, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. Shooting them in the streets of Times Square was a real treat, since they are both fun, professional and highly entertaining personalities. Working with the RED Camera was also a technologically enjoyable experience. We hope that fans of this show—truly an iconic American treasure—enjoy the look and feel of our new open.”

About “Live with Regis and Kelly:”

Currently in its landmark 20th season in national syndication, “Live with Regis and Kelly” originated in 1983, when Regis Philbin created “The Morning Show” for WABC TV in his native Manhattan. It quickly became the number one show in the market. Kathie Lee Gifford joined him in June 1985, and in September 1988, the program debuted in national syndication and the title was changed to “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee.” In 2001, Regis was joined by Kelly Ripa, and the program entered a new era, as “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
