Formatt Brings the WOW Factor to NAB 2009
New Soft Center Beauty Filter Ushers in New Era of Creative Shooting
Las Vegas, N.V. (April 20, 2009) – Formatt Filters, a manufacturer of precision glass filters for the professional video market, today introduced its WOW filter at NAB 2009. Also known as the Soft Center Beauty Filter, the new WOW filter was designed specifically for head shots, talking heads and interviews, and was developed using input from members of the American Society of Cinematographers, with the goal of providing the ultimate filtration technology for shots where a single subject is the main focus of the frame.
As with all Formatt filters, the new WOW Filter is manufactured using Schott B270 Super White® optical lens glass that is precision polished and ground to ensure absolute optical flatness and optimum performance. Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2 to 3 wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer. Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission before leaving the factory, resulting in an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.
Formatt’s new WOW filter offers the ideal soft-effect for a shooter’s subject, thanks to three levels of filtration. The center of the new WOW filter offers grade-3 filtration, which helps create a “softer” image in the center of the frame. The grade-3 center is then feathered to grade-2 and then finally grade-1 on the edges of the filter, delivering the effect where it’s needed and less filtration where it’s not.
The new WOW filter is available in square sizes, measuring 4×4, 5×4, 4×5.65, 5×5, 5.65×5.65 and 6.6 x 6.6 inches.
