Tucson Film & Music Festival Names Allison Anders and Danny Vinik to Creative Advisory Board

tfmf-allison-anders.jpgTucson, AZ– (June 30, 2009) - Tucson Film & Music Festival is thrilled to announce that it has added two significant voices of indie film to its Creative Advisory Board: Allison Anders and Danny Vinik.

“Allison has been a supporter of TFMF since it began,” explains Festival Director Michael Toubassi. “She is a wonderful filmmaker and cinephile and I love her commitment to the world of film and music. Dan Vinik is a long-standing member of the creative community in downtown Tucson. His many successes in the industry and his commitment to Tucson make him a valuable addition to the TFMF board.”

Allison Anders first solo feature, GAS FOOD LODGING (1992) and her follow up, MI VIDA LOCA (1994) have shown her to be a deeply personal filmmaker who has used her own experience to make grittily realistic, well-observed, gently ambling studies of women coming of age amid tough, sterile social conditions. For her cinematic contributions and artistic acumen Anders was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Genius Grant in 1995. She also helmed the features BORDER RADIO, SUGARTOWN, and GRACE OF MY HEART, and has directed episodes of numerous beloved television series.

tfmf-danny-vinik.jpg Online pioneer Danny Vinik is a writer, film producer, film distributor and web developer. He has been intimately involved with feature film production and is the brains behind THE BRINK, a group of entertainment companies that exist on the margins of popular culture, yet still manage to defy easy categorization: BRINK.COM, the “unsocial network” where amorphous articulations begin to take shape; BRINKDVD, a film distribution company that carves a mean niche into the bloody arm of Pop Culture, releasing infamous micro-budget films; and BRINK FILMS, the production entity responsible for SPUN, PORNSTAR PETS, TV PARTY, THE LAST NEW YORKER, and FUZZ, with a slate of films currently in development.
