International Postproduction Facilities Company Optix Digital Pictures Acquires Crunch Recording Group

Toronto, Canada—Optix Digital Pictures, a group of full-service post-production facilities located in Toronto, Hamburg, Berlin and Dubai, has acquired Toronto-based Crunch Recording Group, according to George Levai, co-founder of Optix.

A 6,000 square-foot, seven suite, client friendly, custom-designed audio facility, Crunch has been co-habiting at Optix’ Toronto headquarters since its inception in 1996. Its staff and production facilities will be fully integrated into Optix’ operation. The audio facilities feature spacious recording floors, on-line sound effects servers and state of the art mixing capabilities, including Dolby Digital Surround Mixing. All suites are equipped with Pro-Tools Software. Other services include: sound design, voice casting, talent direction, mix supervision, and stock music searching and licensing.

With Lisa Ann Meawasige-Kertesz as the in-house producer, Rob Kirkpatrick as creative producer, Scott Murdoch as supervising sound editor and designer, and Ric Jurgens as senior sound mixer (to name a few) Optix’ audio team will be working smoothly with the video operations to provide a full service one-stop shop.

The facility is also currently undergoing major renovations and expansion, including the construction of a new and larger central equipment room. Optix will soon offer closed captioning to add to the many other services its clients require.

“Now with the full integration of an audio facility, we can provide clients with pricing that fully addresses the tightest of budgets,” said Levai.

With the machine room expansion, Optix will be integrating its digital linear edit suite - providing packaging of client deliverables – as well as FCP and Avid I/O functionality for digitizing and mastering.

Optix provides all formats in High Definition, as well as NTSC, and PAL, and offers Teranex standards conversion. The facility also has a color grading theater complete with a 4:4:4 Christie HD projector to support all necessary hi-def and standard-def formats.

Compositing/VFX and 3D/animation round out Optix’ complement of services.
