Burbank, CA … Royer Labs, recognized globally for its high quality ribbon microphones used by leading studio professionals, is pleased to announce that the company’s R-101 Mono Ribbon Microphone won the coveted TEC Award during the recent 2012 TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) Awards show. The awards program, hosted during the Winter NAMM trade show, honors outstanding achievement in a variety of categories that encompasses both creative and technical areas.

Hosted by the TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio on Friday, January 20th at the Hilton Anaheim, this year’s awards ceremony marked the 27th year for the TEC Awards. In addition to 27 awards for Technical and Creative Achievement, the enthusiastic audience of industry professionals witnessed the presentation of the TEC Foundation’s prestigious Les Paul Award to guitarist, composer, and producer Steve Vai.

The Royer R-101 won the TEC Award in the area of Microphone Technology/Recording. John Jennings, Royer VP of Sales and Marketing accepted the award for the company, which was presented by noted producer/engineer Eddie Kramer.

“All of us at Royer Labs are happy and extremely proud to see that ribbon microphones have been so successful in mainstream recording,” said Jennings to thunderous applause by a large group of enthusiastic supporters. “The fact that ribbon mics continue to gain momentum in an extremely competitive product category is very gratifying. It’s particularly rewarding to have Eddie Kramer present this award tonight. He was one of the main reasons I took an interest in ribbon microphones in the pre-Royer days, so his early contribution to Royer Labs was invaluable.”

The Royer Labs R-101 is a compact, monaural, passive ribbon microphone that exhibits a flat frequency response and a well-balanced soundfield. The R-101 incorporates Royer’s patented offset-ribbon transducer, a 2.5-micron ribbon element , an advanced multi-layered wind screen for superior protection from air blasts and plosives, an internally shock mounted ribbon transducer system which provides greater isolation from shocks and vibrations, and reduced proximity effect for closer miking with less bass buildup.
