Original “Monkey Island” Short from Monkeyhead Introduces Company’s Latest Reel, and Growing Success Story, in Style

Monkey_IslandHOLLYWOOD — Innovative motion design and production company Monkeyhead is very proud to present “Monkey Island,” an original animated short created specifically to introduce the company’s Summer 2009 Reel. The new content can be viewed on the company’s website at www.monkeyhead.com.


In the humorous original “Monkey Island” short, which was created entirely in-house at Monkeyhead under the guidance of founder and creative director Josh Sahley, a fire-dancing tribal monkey tries to impress his elders by lighting a beach fire. Music and sound design for the project are courtesy of Eric Stolz of LA-based Oddio.


“Normally we just put a montage together showing the work we’ve done and that’s it,” Sahley began. “This year, we took some time to come up with a story and bookend our reel with a hilarious little character animation that really shows another side to us. more

Bud Light Lime Spots from Stardust and DDB Serve-Up Summer State of Mind

For the project, one :30 and two :15 design-intensive broadcast spots entitled “The Summer State of Mind” were created by Stardust under the direction of creative director (CD) Brad Tucker, in association with DDB Chicago’s SVP and group CD Mark Gross, VP CD/art director Chris Roe, VP CD/copywriter Chuck Rachford, and VP executive producer Will St. Clair. Each of the spots debuted on May 10 during high-profile U.S. primetime broadcast coverage, like the 2009 NBA playoffs, and continue to air widely.


With the goal of presenting all the great aspects of Summer in a bottle, the spots feature a seamless, stylized blending of high-speed cinematography of Bud Light Lime pouring into a bottle with many other live-action elements — including shots of young adults dancing, playing volleyball and enjoying a picturesque sunset on a beach — all united by artful editing, compositing and CGI design. From the appearance of the pouring liquid at the beginning through the final presentation of Bud Light Lime bottles, design flourishes and the sunset beach party, Tucker’s unique fusion of talents in filmmaking, design and storytelling shine through. more

Honda Odyssey Travels Through a Simulated “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” Yearbook in RPA’s Cross-Promotional Spot Created by Stardust

The :30 spot directed by Stardust’s Santa Monica-based art director Jonathan Wu debuted across the U.S. last month, and can be seen online here.


“RPA’s creative team approached us with the idea of creating a yearbook-themed cross-promotional spot for the Honda Odyssey as part of Honda’s promotion of Walt Disney Pictures’ ‘High School Musical 3: Senior Year,’” Wu explained. “The main points were to make sure it was photo-real and authentic to a high school yearbook. The guys at RPA gave us great input, and we applied their ideas throughout the process, which really made the piece come together well. It was a great collaboration.” more
