Kodak Scientists Receive SMPTE Honors

Three Kodak technologists were honored last night for their significant imaging innovations that have helped to advance the entertainment industry. The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recognized the achievements of Drake Michno, Richard Wheeler and Nestor Rodriguez at its annual Honors and Awards Ceremony. more

Kodak to Highlight Workflow Options at AMIA Conference

Kodak will be a multi-event sponsor and active participant when the 2009 annual conference of the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) convenes in St. Louis on November 4. The conference will run through November 7, with preliminary day-long workshops held on November 3. The events will be held at a number of sites in the city’s downtown area. more

Kodak Names Winners in Film School Competition

Four students – one from each major region of the world – have been named first-place winners in the 2009 edition of the annual Kodak Film School Competition. The winners include: Chris Freilich from the American Film Institute in the United States; Hatuey Viveros from Centro de Capacitacion Cinematografica in Mexico; Andrzej Krol from the Fachhochschule Dortmund in Germany; and Liu Yizeng from Beijing Film Academy in China. Now in its 10th year, the annual competition recognizes the creativity and talent of student cinematographers in the collaborative process of visual storytelling. more

Marcus Theatres to Feature Kodak Digital Cinema in Omaha

Kodak announced today that it has been selected to power the new Marcus Midtown Cinema at Midtown Crossing in Omaha, Nebraska, the most innovative and stylish complex in the legendary Marcus Theatres chain. Kodak Digital Cinema systems will be installed on all five screens of the four-level entertainment destination, scheduled to open on November 6. Systems will include several models of NEC projectors supplied by Ballantyne Strong who will handle projector installation. more

The site includes powerful commentary from a wide selection of distinguished industry professionals talking about the various aesthetic, practical and financial reasons for choosing to shoot on film. Additionally, online-exclusive articles take a global, in-depth look at productions and their workflows, from camera negative to digital post. The site also features news and events to keep filmmakers connected, monthly Q&A interviews, tools to help filmmakers through the creative process, and information about Kodak products, services and industry initiatives. more

Kodak Sponsors Cinematography Masterclass

Academy Award®-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC and Emmy®-winner Elemér Ragályi, HSC are leading classes at the 2009 Budapest Cinematography Masterclass at Korda Studios in Budapest, Hungary. The bi-annual session is sponsored by Kodak, and features two weeks of instruction with 16 postgraduate film school students and young film professionals from 13 countries. more

Cineworks Becomes First U.S. Lab Accredited in KODAK IMAGECARE Program

Kodak announced today that Cineworks Digital Studios in Miami, Florida, became the first U.S. laboratory – and the 51st worldwide – to successfully complete KODAK IMAGECARE Program certification. Since the Kodak program began in 1996, it has now been adopted in 31 countries – from Argentina to Turkey and from the United Arab Emirates to the Russian Federation. more

Kodak is pleased to announce a collaboration with da Vinci Systems, LLC, a leader in high-performance color correction tools for the postproduction industry, to bring its image quality enhancement algorithms to the marketplace.

Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC has been named Kodak Cinematographer in Residence for the spring quarter at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Theater, Film and Television. The mentorship program was inaugurated by Professor William McDonald with the support of Kodak in 2000. more
