Sony Pictures Entertainment Selects FilmLight’s Baselight for New Post Facility

Installation includes three Baselight EIGHT systems for new 4K DI grading theatres

LONDON— FilmLight today announces delivery of seven Baselight colour grading systems to Sony Pictures Entertainment. The systems will be installed at its newly-built digital intermediate facilities on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, California, and connected to the studio’s Digital Backbone. The package includes three Baselight EIGHT systems that have been installed in state-of-the-art 4K digital intermediate grading theatres designed for both standard and 3D stereoscopic feature film work. The installation also includes two Baselight FOURs for use in suites designed primarily for television projects and two Baselight Assists, for pre-grading and other preparatory work. more

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Oscar winner turns to leading Mumbai DI house for speed and quality


Mumbai, India post and DI house, FutureWorks, has just completed post production of a music video promoting The One Drop Foundation (http://www.onedrop.org) on its Quantel Pablo and Genetic Engineering systems. The video, directed by Deepak Ghatani for Contiloe Films, features a song performed by Oscar winning composer AR Rahman. The whole post production process was completed in just one day, from loading the RED-shot footage into the Pablo using the new RED Rocket to carrying out the conform, color correction and production of deliverables. more

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – November 12, 2009 – Company 3 Colorist Stephen Nakamura fine-tuned the look of Overture Films’ action thriller Law Abiding Citizen, working closely with director F. Gary Gray and cinematographer Jonathan Sela to set the visuals for the feature starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. Nakamura, whom Gray refers to as a “master” in the field, worked on a DaVinci Resolve system to help realize the soft, muted look—unusual for this kind of tough thriller—that the filmmakers wanted. more

Final Frame Post Completes Digital Intermediate for Peter and Vandy Feature Film

Final Frame Post, a New York City based post production service provider announced that it provided the digital intermediate services for “Peter and Vandy,” a feature written and directed by Jay DiPeitro and based on his award-winning play. Peter and Vandy is about a young New York couple’s relationship that unfolds in a non-linear fashion and told in non-chronological order. It opened in limited release on Friday, October 9, 2009.


Will Cox, Final Frame Post co-founder and colorist, conformed, graded and digitally color corrected the material on their Digital Vision Nucoda Film Master system and Rising Sun Research’s CineSpace for color management. The data-centric workflow of the DI and the use of LUT’s, allowed frame-by-frame interaction and great control over the look of the feature ensuring precise calibration of the post production process. more

Quantel first in the world to release RED Rocket support

Quantel eQ, iQ and Pablo users already benefiting from faster loading and better workflow with RED projects


Quantel has just released a new version of software for its eQ, iQ and Pablo systems which, among a number of other useful new features, also includes support for the RED Rocket accelerator board. RED Rocket only became available in August, and Quantel is the first manufacturer to release software that supports it, allowing Quantel users to benefit from the much reduced loading and conform times RED Rocket enables with RED-originated material. more
