On the Artbeats booth

Artbeats at NAB Show 2008Artbeats didn’t just bring three new collections to NAB–a gorgeous ultra slo-mo reel, new air-to-air (shot with Phantom) and energy aerials, and an Environmental Impact series.

The company also reinforced their intention to be a creative and technical resource for those using stock footage with an on-booth demo theater running continuous series of tutorials on topics including Steve Holmes on compositing fire effects in AE, DVD menus, lower third design, and using ProRes 422.

An Interview with Class on Demand’s Paul Holtz

Class On Demand Paul HoltzTell me about Class On Demand Training.

Class On Demand has evolved in the last 15 years into a company that provides a variety of training related products in the consumer to professional space. We’ve evolved from tape based training to DVD and downloadable content.

We’ve won a bunch of awards for our training, and have frankly gotten a reputation for producing very high quality content. Probably as a result, in addition to our retail products, we now do a lot of custom-branded training for companies like Grass Valley, Sorenson, Telestream, and a variety of others. more

ARCHIVE: Luxology limo tip

Luxology’s Brad Peebler can’t talk about everything on the record, which is the kind of thing that seems more portentous in a limo. So here’s a quickie. Check out the new training division on their site. Close collaboration with Adobe on some aspects of CS3, like on the 3D import side, has also yielded some experience/info on things like how to prepare a model for CS3, how to use Photoshop layers, artist sweetening…etc. The project-based training materials–some CS3 related, some not–are all downloadable iTunes-style. Get a whole project’s worth of lessons for $25, pieces of it for $5 each. It’s beginners level with stuff that also applies to intermediate and advanced Brad says. He says it will help you get closer to “flow” that place where the tools start to disappear into the background of your brain.
