Luxology to Present a Series of Technology and Customer Videos During SIGGRAPH 2006
Luxology LLC, an independent technology company developing next-generation 3D content creation software, announced it will present three special video segments for the computer graphics community during SIGGRAPH 2006. Hosted by Brad Peebler, president of Luxology, the initial session will focus on the latest computer graphics technology from Luxology. On subsequent days, Greg Leuenberger of Sabertooth Productions and Rich Hurrey of Pixar Animation Studios will offer veteran insight on two key topics: hard surface modeling, and advanced rendering techniques. Both customer sessions are grounded in the context of using modo in production environments. Sponsored by ATI, a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics solutions, the Luxology SIGGRAPH 2006 video sessions are free and designed to share valuable tips and information amongst the modo user base and the entire computer graphics community.
The following video downloads will be posted on www.modo3d.com beginning on Aug. 1, 2006:
Luxology and modo (available for viewing beginning Aug. 1, 2006) Presented by Brad Peebler, president and co-founder of Luxology
Brad will kick off the series with an up-to-the-minute overview of Luxology‘s modo software and an insightful tour of the latest modo developments. Featuring extensive on-screen software demonstrations with Brad at the controls, this session is ideal for both modo users and anyone interested in learning about the newest modeling, painting and rendering technology from Luxology.
Real-world Rendering Techniques (available for viewing beginning Aug. 2, 2006) Presented by Greg Leuenberger, Sabertooth Productions
Greg will use modo‘s newest rendering tools to demonstrate techniques for rapidly creating beautifully lit scenes with minimal effort. Greg‘s on-screen presentation and remarks will cover efficient techniques for setting up lighting rigs, and how to make maximum use of the render preview window in modo. This session will also address techniques for mixing diffuse and subsurface scattering, as well as streamlining your workflow using modo’s flexible UI. This session is aimed at current modo users and any 3D artist seeking to improve their knowledge of creating high-quality rendered images.
Hard Surface Modeling (available for viewing beginning Aug. 3, 2006) Presented by Rich Hurrey, Pixar Animation Studios
Rich will show viewers how to efficiently create clean, accurate mechanical and man-made hard surface objects that are ready for downstream texturing and lighting. Using a component approach to building complex shapes in modo, this session will cover concepts for completing especially challenging subdivision surface modeling tasks such as: carving a hole in a curved surface; connecting two pipes together; and modeling a curved shape that has sharp edges or a bend. This session is designed for current modo users and 3D artists who have some 3D modeling knowledge and would like to improve their ability to produce high-quality 3D hard surface models.
Pricing and Availability
The Luxology video sessions are free and will be sequentially introduced each morning beginning Tues., Aug. 1 through Thurs., Aug. 3, 2006. Each session is approximately 30-40 minutes in duration and will be available for viewing as video downloads from modo3d.com. All videos will be available for download several weeks following SIGGRAPH 2006. For more information on modo, please visit www.modo3d.com or contact Luxology at (650) 378-8506.
