Sony Professional Display Group Turning On at SIGGRAPH

Sony‘s professional display products are turning on and turning heads in several exhibit areas of the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival here in Bean Town this week. The Sony technologies on display range from SXRD 4K large venue and LCD business projectors to displays for digital signage applications.

“SIGGRAPH is the perfect place to fully exhibit the capabilities of our professional display products,” said John Kaloukian, director, Sony Electronics professional display group. “The growing use of computer graphics and interactive technologies in motion picture animation, simulation, CAD/CAM work and post-production has increased the need for displays and projectors that fit a range of professional requirements. The products in our line-up were designed with just that flexibility in mind and that‘s what will be on display at the show.”

Most of the Sony products are being put to use in the annual event‘s Computer Animation Festival area.

Sony is providing its SXRD 4K projector–the 10,000 lumen model SRX-R110–for the Electronic Theater. The SRX-R105 (5,000 lumens) is also being put to use in the Sony ImageWorks booth, displaying a reel of SPE ImageWorks‘ projects, and an SRX-R110 model is being used in nVidia‘s booth.

“From day one, more than a year ago, Sony was an aggressive supporter of the CAF in every way possible, and then some,” said Terrence Mason, director of the Computer Animation Festival. “Their technology and ‘next generation‘ thinking has been a perfect match for the over-the-top presentation I was shooting for this year.”

The SRX Series projectors provide an image resolution of more than 8.8 million pixels, with high levels of contrast and accurate color reproduction.

“These products are providing high-quality, high-resolution projection in applications from visualization and simulation to digital cinema,” said Andre Floyd, marketing manager for SXRD systems at Sony Electronics. “Their ability to produce 8.8 million pixels on a screen, which is four times the resolution of consumer HD home theater systems, provides tremendous flexibility for these applications.”

The other models in the SXRD line-up include the SRX-S105 (5,000 lumens), which began delivery last month as well as the SRX-S110 (10,000 lumen) model to be introduced in August. These last two models include features like DVI inputs and 60 Hz input rate to make them suited for non-cinema projection applications such as analytical viewings, scientific visualization or flight simulation, among others.

Sony LCD business projectors and LCD public displays power the visuals for several venues within SIGGRAPH‘s Art Gallery and Guerilla Studio areas.

Specific LCD projector models include the new VPL-FX52 (6,000 ANSI lumens), VPL-EX3 (2,000 ANSI lumens) and the VPL-CX63 (3,000 ANSI lumens).

The Sony displays at SIGGRAPH include the SDM-P234 23-inch LCD, FWD-42LX1 42-inch LCD and FWD-50PX2 plasma models (all screen sizes refer to viewable area, measured diagonally).
