Softimage Puts Siggraph on Ice
Once again, the Siggraph party scene seems to be living up to all expectations–thanks to another blockbuster from Softimage. As is seemingly tradition from Avid’s professional 3D animation software division, Softimage in cooperation with Dell put their cool spin on Siggraph with a party at 740 Club in downtown L.A. where they promoted their new transformative open platform ICE with a 45-minute set by notorious hip-hop and reality TV icon Vanilla Ice.
Long lines laced the back alley between Broadway and Spring for entrance into the ornate defunct theater turned high-end club venue–with multiple levels of plush leather couch seating for attendees to take in the laser- and neon-laced scene. It’d probably be a reach to say nearly a thousand tradeshow and festival goers made the event, but then again–for V-ICE you can only expect the masses.
The performance was veiled in a backdrop of Halloween decorations–a skeleton archway, scarecrow-type posts, and such–which were presumably bought via post-holiday sales last November by the pop star. But, it all added up to a fantastic time and fun energy that we’ve all come to enjoy at Softimage parties. This one did not fail to impress, once again. Kudos to Jen Goldfinch and the Softimage team for hitting the nail right on the head.
Softimage recently announced it’s ICE platform as a part of its latest version of XSI (number 7) and are demo-ing the powerful setup at their Siggraph booth.
