Nation’s Largest Pet Insurer Engages Sundance Audience To Raise Awareness On Pet Health Issues and Animal Adoption
Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) took its walk down the red carpet at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival with the debut of the “Pet Pad,” a first-time-ever animal awareness experience for celebrity guests attending the annual event.
Hoping to engage a high-profile audience of pet advocates and owners, VPI partnered with the Best Friends Animal Society to deliver a message of pet health and shelter animal adoption during the opening days of the 10-day celebrity-filled festival. Located within the exclusive “House of Hype” hospitality lounge, the “Pet Pad” offered invited guests an opportunity to visit with adoptable animals and ask for expert pet advice from Dr. Karen Halligan, best-selling author of What Every Pet Owner Should Know and judge on Animal Planet’s Groomer Has It.
“Veterinary Pet Insurance is the category leader and it made perfect sense to participate in the inaugural pet-related outreach effort at Sundance, one of the nation’s leading events,” said Dr. Halligan. “Sundance attracts some of the most influential individuals into one place at the same time, and creating conversation about pet insurance as well as pet wellness among this niche group will help trigger broader awareness for the topic.”
The customized lounge for pet lovers was a popular space for festival VIPs. Actors Andie McDowell, Kevin Sorbo and Alan Cummings, as well as model Christie Brinkley, were among the many pet-loving supporters who visited the “Pet Pad” and discussed animal issues with “Doc” Halligan. Each guest received VPI goody bags full of pet-related swag such as coupons for free organic dog treats, full-sized John Paul Pet oatmeal shampoo, Best Friends Animal Society magazines, Petfinder.com luggage tags and VPI-branded pet bandanas.
